Good morning from Day 2 of the Degrees Global Forum!

Yesterday’s opening plenary set the tone for an urgent, thoughtful, and globally grounded conversation about the future of solar radiation modification (SRM). Each morning, we’ll share highlights from the previous day’s sessions. Enjoy today’s conversations!

Opening Plenary Highlights

Opening statements from Jackie Kado, Oliver Morton, Thelma Krug, and Pascal Lamy set the tone for the world’s largest gathering of SRM experts to date.

Morton said, “We know that it’s going to be a place where you will share, discuss, and criticise research. We hope you will be exposed to new insights and perspectives. And we are relying on all of you to use it as an opportunity to make connections.”

Krug described the forum as “moving from words to action”.

The speakers also made it clear what is at stake: “The too late equation has to be somewhere in our minds”, noted Lamy.

All emphasised the importance and value of incorporating Global South perspectives. Kado said, “I hope that you will leave not just with new ideas and new friends, but a new perspective on what SRM means for the continent.”
