May 2025 Launch Edition

Dear ,

It feels like just yesterday that we soft-launched SRM360, with the ambitious goal of bringing accessible, accurate information about solar geoengineering to people around the world. Thanks to your feedback, we have learned and grown more than we imagined over the past six months – building a cleaner, brighter website, with new guides and news reactions, explainers, graphics, podcasts and perspectives, as well as our first live discussion.

Today we announce the next step in our evolution. At our formal launch at the Degrees Global Forum in Cape Town, we are unveiling a new line of landscape products, including the world’s most comprehensive overview of SRM funding and spending.

Tracking all funding in this field has been a major piece of work, eliciting striking insights into who is funding what and where – and how different regions and sectors compare. Learn more below.

As SRM gains attention worldwide, we believe clear, accessible information plays a critical role in helping people chart the best way forward. We have a lot more in store – introducing more actors to the science, the issues, and the people of SRM, with content that speaks directly to their own priorities.

We would not be here without you: please keep writing to us with your feedback and ideas, so we can better support this extraordinary community. We’re excited to keep growing together.

Live from the Degrees Forum

Today’s New Initiatives session at the Degrees Global Forum spotlighted SRM360 and gave us an opportunity to showcase some of our exciting new tools – more on those below.

Yesterday, we recorded a live discussion with leading African experts about the future of Africa, the climate outlook, and the potential and risks of SRM for the continent.

Tracking the SRM landscape

Today we launch two new tools which will help you track the evolving SRM landscape. We have a public researcher database for those looking to connect with SRM researchers and a funding tracker and analysis providing a comprehensive picture of the SRM funding landscape.

A key recent development: the UK's ARIA last week announced £45 million in funding for 21 solar geoengineering research projects, including five projects with field experiments. We asked experts for their reactions.

6 Months of Impact

Since going live in late November, we have reached over 12,000 website users from 102 countries, with our "news reaction" pieces ranking amongst our most popular content. We have also featured over 50 experts in perspectives, podcasts, and news reactions, highlighting the growing community involved in SRM discussions.

We have supported briefings and workshops hosted by NGOs in the UK, US, and Canada, and have more collaborations in the works. SRM360’s first live discussion – on bans and moratoria around the world – drew more than 80 participants from media, academia, and policy, and drove significant coverage of the issue.

We began this journey with the conviction that the world faces critical decisions about SRM today and a mission to provide people with the information they need to engage in those decisions.

The immediate impact we've demonstrated – and the growing interest in solar geoengineering – reaffirm our commitment and enthusiasm. Again, we could not make this happen without our incredible SRM community. Thank you for your continued support.

We'll be back later this month with our regular monthly recap of the latest solar geoengineering updates.
